So what in the world do “Middle 50 Percent Test Scores” and the other terms mean? Let us explain.

If you put all of last year’s accepted student test scores in one basket, they will come out in a bell-shaped curve as follows:

0 Percentile 25th Percentile 25th - 75th Percentile 75th Percentile 100th Percentile

• One out four students (25%) will have scores in the 0 to 25th percentile range.

• One out of two students (50%) will have scores in the 25th to 75th percentile range. This is the Middle 50 Percent Test Scores.

• One out of four students (25%) will have scores in the 75th-100th percentile range.

To help you understand how this information can be used, let’s take one of Annie’s colleges as an example. Oberlin College’s 25th-75th Percentile Test Scores are 1290-1470.

What this means is that:

• 25% of the freshman class scored below 1290
• 50% scored between 1290 and 1470
• 25% scored above 1470
