USEFUL INFORMATION ABOUT AP COURSES & EXAMS
AP LITE
It is said that a few AP tests are considered “AP Lite,” although this is up for debate.
According to some members of the National Association for Admission Counseling, four
AP courses in particular are considered "AP Lite" by many of the competitive colleges:
AP Geography, AP Psychology, AP Environmental Science and AP Statistics. In other words,
these are classes are seen as NOT being as rigorous as other AP classes.
TAKE THE TESTS
Some admissions offices are not happy with students who take AP classes, but don’t take
the corresponding AP test. Admissions officers might perceive students who do this as
either lazy or unprepared.
FAQ #7: Can any student sign up for an AP class?
ANSWER: Most high schools have a selection process that determines which of their students are eligible for specific AP classes based on what kinds of grades and course backgrounds they have. If you are interested in taking an AP course, discuss this with the AP teacher of the course in which you are interested or the school AP Coordinator.
FAQ #8: Since the AP exams are only given once a year, what happens if you are sick on the day of the test?
ANSWER: The College Board provides for late testing on alternative dates under what they call “extreme circumstances” (illness, death in the family, etc.) Contact your AP teacher or AP Coordinator for details about how to request and take part in late testing.
