SCORE CHOICE
College board has recently made it possible for students to choose the SAT scores by test date and Subject scores by individual test that they want to have sent to colleges. However, some colleges have their own score policies. Students can check what policy different colleges have online when they request that their test scores be sent to different colleges.
FAQ #5: Which Subject Tests should I take?
ANSWER: Most of the time, colleges that require Subject Tests leave it up to the individual student which ones to take. However, some colleges, including the UC’s have some special requirements such as specifying that you must take two tests in different subject areas, and if you take the Math Subject Test, it must be level II. Most students take Subject Tests at the end of their junior year and beginning of senior year.
In general, take Subject Tests in the subjects in which you are particularly strong or have just completed a course. Also, take Subjects Tests for any corresponding AP course you complete. Finally, if you plan on being a science or engineering major, take the tests that reflect your math and sciences knowledge and abilities.
FAQ #6: Should I prepare for the Subject Tests?
ANSWER: Yes! Even the College Board people say that preparing for the Subject Tests is a good idea. Because these tests are based on specific content, you really can study for them. More importantly, there is a direct correlation between how much you prepare for Subjects Tests and how high your scores are. The same test preparation options noted for the SAT apply to preparing for Subjects Tests.
