The new Common Application is available for students August 1. For students who will be very active in a sport and/or activities fall semester, this is a good time to begin brainstorming ideas for the short, long and additional information essays.

Go to the admissions section of each college website to which you plan to apply to see if their application is available on-line. If you find that one or more are, then download and print a copy of the application, making note of what the application essays are.

• Decide on a focus for your applications and topics for the essays questions.
• Brainstorm content for your essays.
October
Write, edit and complete essays for early applications.
November
Write (or recycle), edit and complete essays for November deadlines.
December
Write (or recycle), edit and complete essays for December and January 1, 2, and 3 deadlines.
January
Complete or recycle all remaining essays.
