FAQ #5: My high school offers both AP and IB courses. Which ones are better for me to take as far as college admissions goes?
ANSWER: College admissions officers say that, course-by-course, there is no preference for either AP or IB courses. However, many indicate that having an IB diploma carries a lot of weight in the admissions decision.
College admissions officers love to see applicants who have gone beyond the norm to pursue an intellectual interest. Whether your “thing” is math, writing, spacecraft design, marine science, filmmaking, dinosaurs, or anything else, there are probably programs you can attend that will involve you with other students, teachers and places that share and encourage your passion.
Take advantage of one or more of the many, many academic opportunities available to high school students these days. They offer you the opportunity to do something you love, be involved with like-minded people, have a great time, and impress college admissions officers all at the same time!
